ENGINEERING MANAGER

SHIFT: Full Time Exempt - 7AM-5:30PM Monday through Thursday (Hours TBD)
TRAVEL REQUIRED: Minimal Travel (less than 10%)
COMPENSATION: $110,000 - $165,000 Annual Salary DOE
RELOCATION COST: Not paid
LOCATION: On-site - Riverside, CA (not remote work)

Phenix Technology, Inc., a leader in the manufacturing of American-made fire helmets, is seeking an experienced and motivated Engineering Manager to oversee our Research and Development (R&D) team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the continuous improvement of our products, managing R&D projects, and testing products to meet industry standards. The Engineering Manager will mentor and develop team members while driving innovation and maintaining the high standards Phenix is known for.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and guide research and development efforts, identifying innovation solutions and new product development opportunities in line with company goals.
  • Oversee product testing to ensure compliance with industry standards (NFPA, OSHA, etc.), safety regulations and internal quality benchmarks.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional development.
  • Plan, organize, and execute engineering projects, ensuring deadlines are met and resources are efficiently utilized.
  • Work closely with executive team, production, marketing, quality, and other departments to ensure new products and improvements are aligned with business needs.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives and implement process improvements that increase efficiency and product quality.
  • Perform additional responsibilities related to the role as needed to support the broader goals of Phenix Technology, Inc.

        MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

        • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or a related field).
        • 5+ years of engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
        • Demonstrated experience in product development
        • Proven ability to manage engineering projects and meet tight deadlines.
        • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
        • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
        • Proficiency in CAD software and engineering tools.
        • Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.

          IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

          • Demonstrated experience in safety product development and testing for industry standards compliance (e.g., NFPA, OSHA).
          • Master’s degree in engineering or a related field.
          • 7+ years of engineering experience, with 3+ years in a managerial role overseeing Research & Development teams.
          • Extensive knowledge of fire protection products, safety equipment, or similar industries.
          • Proven track record of successful product launches and compliance with industry standards.
          • Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing high-performing, diverse teams.
          • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma.
          • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar ISO certification.
          • Experienced with Solidworks, Monday.com, and MATLAB.
          • Familiarity with neurodiversity in the workplace and a commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment.
          • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar credentials.
          • Experience working in a company with a mission-driven, community-oriented focus, particularly with experience in workforce development.

          PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

          While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to do the following:

          • Frequently required to sit, walk and talk or hear; use hands to handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
          • The employee must occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
          • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
          • Vision should be correctable to accurately read small font writing.
