Phenix Fire Helmets Raises $20,000 for National Fallen Firefighters Foundation with One-of-One 9/11 Commemorative Helmet

When we set out to build a one-of-one 9/11 commemorative helmet for the foundation, we hoped it would do more than turn heads. We hoped it would honor the firefighters we can never forget and raise meaningful support for the families who continue to carry that loss forward.

On April 23, 2026, at the foundation’s charity auction during A Night of Honor: When the World Stopped, They Stood, that hope became something much bigger.

Our handmade helmet sold for $20,000!

But the number only tells part of the story.

The Helmet

Created in the 25th anniversary year of 9/11, the helmet was built as a one-of-one TL-2 Traditional Leather tribute. It features a flat-black leather shell, reflective silver tetrahedrons, a natural leather underbrim, hand-painted filigree, and laser-engraved tribute details.

Most importantly, it carries the names of the 343 firefighters lost on September 11, 2001, alongside imagery of firefighters and the Twin Towers.

It was designed to be something worth fighting for, and a fight is what we got.

The Moment That Changed the Night

At FDIC 2026, before the auction even began, something unexpected happened.

A firefighter stopped at our booth.

He hadn’t heard about the helmet donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. He simply saw it, displayed in the hallway, and took the time to study it. After learning it would be auctioned off later that night, he made a decision on the spot:

He bought a ticket to attend the dinner to try to win the helmet.

The Bidding War

What followed at the auction was a genuine back-and-forth. A bidding war that reflected exactly what we had hoped the helmet would inspire: emotion, respect, and a willingness to give. As the numbers climbed, it became clear this was about what the helmet represented, and what the moment meant.

When the gavel finally came down, Turtle Plastics secured the winning bid at $20,000, setting a new benchmark for what we’ve been able to raise for the foundation.

What Happened After

But the story didn’t end there.

After the auction, we had the chance to speak with the firefighter who had entered the room determined to win it. We thanked him for being part of what made the night so meaningful.

In that conversation, he made another decision.

He offered to donate $7,000 to the foundation, on one condition: that we create a similar memorial helmet for him.

We agreed.

What It Means

For us, the result is deeply personal.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation exists to honor America’s fallen fire heroes, support their families and colleagues, and help prevent future firefighter deaths and injuries.

In a year when the fire service is reflecting on the meaning of 9/11, and the sacrifice of the 343 FDNY firefighters and 441 first responders who died that day, that mission feels especially urgent.

By our internal count, this single auction result was four times our previous best for the foundation. But more than that, it was a reminder of what this community does when it shows up with intention.

Moving Forward

We’re grateful, humbled, and energized by what this community made possible.

If you’d like to help carry that mission forward, we encourage you to support the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation directly through their official donation channels.

Because moments like this only happen when people decide to be part of them.

The night was magical for sure. As the auctioneer who worked to get this amazing helmet to $20,000 is something I will certainly never forget. Honoring the 343 and being able to support NFFF with the continued support of an amazing organization like Phenix is truly an honor. Phenix fire helmets is an extraordinary organization committed to the fire service and I am proud to call you friends and excited to wear a Phenix helmet soon!
